An hour later, the email was confirmed as received by Jabal’s assistant. Now all she had to do was wait for her travel visa. Alex couldn’t wait to get on a plane to Benin. She’d been to many exotic locations, but this would be her first time in Africa. Once her official business was taken care of, she’d explore some of what her motherland had to offer before heading back to the States to stack her paper.

She made quick work of the plans she intended to execute once the acquisitions were complete. She’d already put her plan in motion to sell her clubs, including Paradise. Her other business ventures had been frozen since her stint in federal lockup, and while the money was astronomical, it was too much of a risk. It would have to stay frozen until this deal with Jabal came through. Then, and only then, would she decide whether to leave the black market alone for good. She never wanted to leave Kaion again, but she never wanted to be broke, either. Jabal was the lesser of two evils. She huffed as she slid the bar from left to right to answer the phone. Wilky Zo. Another loose end who wanted to tug at her purse strings, but she was about to snip his line, whether he liked it or not.

The heated tone of the other person gave her little chance to get a word in, edgewise, and the thick accent wasn’t much help, either. “Bouzin! Bouzin sal! Introduce you me contacts and you cut me out! We been good to you, Alex, you—”

“Look, Wilky, I won’t be one more of your bitches, dirty bitches, or any other type of bitch,” she snapped, cutting him off at the pass. “You passed this to me. Our agreement was that I run this because you cannot, or do I need to remind you of why you can’t?”

There was a silence that passed through the line, but Alex knew he was still there, only listening. “Whenever I cop mine, I’m willing to pay you . . . let’s call it . . . a finder’s fee. Like a broker. But unless
